Today is a very, very sad day for me. My little Daisy Dog has been ill with canine lymphoma and I made the extremely hard decision that euthanasia was the kindest thing that I could do for her. She was diagnosed 8 weeks ago. For 6 weeks she seemed stress and pain free. On week 7 she was panting and sleeping more. Her decline had sped up over the past couple of days and although still eating and enjoying a short walk twice a day, it was obvious that she was beginning to suffer. This mornings decision was the hardest that I have ever made. I have cried an ocean of tears. She is now resting in peace with her sister Bob the Dog who died in March last year. I have attached a link from ASPCA giving care advice about dogs who are nearing end of life.

Enoughness: The Boxing Day sales in Australia, with a population of 23,490,700 people, are estimated to reach 16 Billion dollars over 2 days. Do we need all of the stuff that we purchase and how much of it will be tossed aside within the next 6 months? With 2,548,496 in Australia living below the poverty line, how might lives be different if only 10% of the sales money was donated to those in need?

For those of you from the colder side of the world at Christmas, here is a little Aussie 12 Day's of Christmas. No roasting or toasting anything, except maybe the B.B.Q. or ourselves at the beach. Wishing you all a safe and joyful holiday time and open compassion for those who might be doing it tough. Be kind to your selves and others now and always.

To acknowledging a persons pain and/or difficult life situation, without judgment, advise or minimizing what is being shared with you can make a great difference to a person seeking understanding. Any form of minimization of a situation often only benefits the person who is hearing. Truly listening with empathy involves setting aside your own ego to get in touch with the sharers experience.

In Australia, giving consent to participate in sexual activity cannot legally be given when you are under the age of 16, under the influence of drugs or alcohol or agreeing to participate while experiencing fear or duress. The law in the same for for all sexes. The lack of using the word "No" does not equate to the word "Yes".

Carrie Bailee’s powerful spoken-word piece entitled SOLD. She courageously recounts the dark memories of her childhood, but more importantly, focuses on her inspiring escape and desire to help others in similar situations rise up. Violence against women and children has become an epidemic of global proportion and continues to rise. With a beautifully poignant and inspiring style, Bailee unashamedly pulls back the curtain on a hidden and often silenced world of abuse. I was privileged to be on the same bill as Carrie last year in an Arts to Healing event to raise awareness of sex trafficking. Carrie is a true inspiration Her book is raw and true.

I've been working at Very Special Kids for a non-for-profit organisation called The Art Cabriolet with my good friend Svetlana Bykoviec and we managed to get to know Humpty Dumpty pretty well. We have also made some other special friends this week in the staff and patients in this beautiful facility. Very Special Kids and The Art Cabriolet are working hand in hand to provide the valuable opportunities for families to gather in a peaceful and empathetic environment with their child who is at the end of their life to express unsaid emotion and thoughts through creativity. "The war on Drugo" in a short and simple look at how the impact on lives is more about the greed around controlling drugs than using them.

What is Addiction? Gabor Maté offers a true defection of why a person, their life falling down around them, continues to numb their minds and bodies with addictive drugs. I have been working with intravenous drug users for the past twelve months with some truly beautiful souls who, sadly, are unable to stop using. One thing that they all seem to have in common is that they have suffered trauma at some point in life. Deadening pain may have started as a short term thing but the feeling of being pain free, even for the briefest of moments, can be an enormous pulling force in continuing drug use.

Tomorrow I will appear before the Australian Royal Commission into Institutional Childhood Sexual Abuse with the hope that more stringent sentences and recognition of all elements of abuse, example - grooming, are dealt with more thoroughly. I only hope that the government also hold a Royal Commission into abuse that takes place in a child's own home by those who are supposed to care for them. Imagine a world with no child abuse, a world where all children have the opportunity grow free from this curse.

Nonviolent Communication with Marshall Rosenberg - a brief introduction. Marshall Rosenberg worked as a "peace leader" in the most volatile areas of the world and is the creator of Nonviolent Communication, a conflict resolution tactic centered on compassion.
